Do I need an aquarium heater or chiller?
We definitely recommend using an aquarium heater. They are inexpensive to purchase and operate. Aquarium chillers, on the other hand, are expensive; consider purchasing if you aren’t able to keep your room temperature cool enough for your seahorse.
Maintain optimal water temperature specific to each seahorse species (most typically at 71˚ to 74˚ degrees). We recommend:
- A temperature-adjustable heater; don’t use a heater that has a preset temperature
- A heater cover, or heater located out of reach of seahorses - seahorses hitch to everything and can burn their tails
- Housing your aquarium in a cool room without direct sunshine to better control water temperature (basements work well!)
